A nursing home is in charge of monitoring what type of residents they are admitting and they are supposed to assess whether or not any resident poses a threat to the others. When a dangerous resident is admitted, families of the other residents should be notified immediately. The consequences of not doing so can be heartbreaking. In one nursing home, a sex offender was permitted to stay there with other residents and violated the terms of his parole by having sex with two fellow residents who were mentally disabled.

The correction officials decided not to send the sex offender back to prison but instead let him reside at the care home for an additional 13 months, while he had sex with a third resident. Staff members of the nursing home stated that state officials had failed to provide them of the necessary information of the criminal’s parole restrictions. The criminal’s parole officer and counselor had advised him many times not to have sex with any of the residents during his stay there.

The man had originally been incarcerated for having sex with a 13 year old boy. When questioned, the criminal admitted to having sex with a male and a female resident. Any details of the residents who engaged in this behavior were not released. The nursing home has been fined $2000 for failing to provide proper supervision for its residents.
